Russ Lebovitz - Chief Executive Officer
Russ worked for 15 + years as a successful senior scientist and research physician in a variety of academic settings
before transitioning to a second career focused on financial, operational and executive management of emerging
technology companies. In 1995 and 1996 Russ studied management and finance at Rice and Stanford Universities and
subsequently worked for a variety of early and intermediate-stage biotech and medical device companies throughout the
US . Between 1997 to 2003, Russ managed global projects in operations, marketing and finance for a number of Fortune
100 technology companies including Royal Dutch Shell, Nextel, Cingular Wireless, Johnson & Johnson, Compaq Computer
and JPMorganChase, as well as with leading venture capital and investment banking firms. Russ has developed financial
models and marketing plans that helped to raise over $100 million for early and intermediate stage pharmaceutical and
biomedical device companies. He served as President of C-Sixty, a nanotechnology company based on the intellectually
property of Richard Smalley (winner of the Nobel Prize) through the process of technology commercialization and drug
development. Russ completed undergraduate studies at University of Michigan (Phi Beta Kappa), received his M.D. and
Ph.D. degrees from Washington University in St. Louis and completed post-graduate biomedical training at the University
of Pennsylvania, University of Toronto, Baylor College of Medicine and Washington University. Russ also served on the
faculty of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and The Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
Karen MacLeod- Director of Regulatory
Karen has over 20 years of experience in the drug development industry, with particular focus in investigational new drug
(IND) planning and preparation, chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC), and early clinical development. She was
employed with CCS Associates, Inc. (CCSA), a scientific services company headquartered in Mountain View, CA, from 1998
through 2011, during which time she generated numerous CMC dossiers for investigational drugs, including botanical agents.
Prior to working for CCSA, Karen was with the formulations and process development group at SEQUUS Pharmaceuticals
(Menlo Park, CA). Karen was with SEQUUS from 1989 (then known as Liposome Technology, Inc.) through 1998, where she
worked extensively on the development, manufacture and analysis of liposome suspensions. Karen holds an undergraduate
degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
Christopher McCord - Chief Financial Officer
Christopher McCord serves as CFO of Marval. He is also a Principal at Healthcare Growth Partners, an investment banking
and strategic advisory firm. Previously, he was a consultant with DFJ Mercury Venture Capital, where he evaluated new
investments and advised portfolio companies on strategic, operational, and financial initiatives. Prior to DFJ Mercury,
Christopher worked at VMG Health, where he provided corporate finance advisory services to healthcare companies, and KPMG,
where he worked in the technology corporate finance group. Christopher holds an undergraduate degree in engineering with
honors from Vanderbilt University, an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, and the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
designation. He is a member of the Advisory Council of UT Health School of Biomedical Informatics.
